School Meals Food Culture event for Stockport Schools
Earlier this month we hosted an event for all schools in Stockport to champion debate around school meals and the future of Food Culture in 2017. The event, sponsored by Ralph Liveseys and Hannah Foods, enabled headteachers, business managers and school governors to hear guest speaker, Myles Bremner talk about The School Food Plan and how focus on this will grow in the new year.
Passionate about providing high quality, diverse and nutritional meals, our school meals team wanted to ‘show’, rather than ‘tell’ local schools, we mean what we say.
Guest speaker at the event, Myles Bremner, former director of The School Food Plan, explained to schools that Food Culture in 2017 will go beyond the school kitchen.
Whilst he expanded on government plans and views around food provision in schools for 2017, he also debated with delegates how the delivery of food culture in schools will need to recognise the importance of education, exercise and environment. One example used to highlight this, was discussion over initiatives to build school allotments, encouraging children to garden and learn how to grow fruit and vegetables, and by doing so, encouraging them to have an interest and enjoyment in eating them.
Head of School Meals and Facilities at Solutions SK, Sharon Alldread comments on the event,
This was a fantastic opportunity for us to show schools how dedicated and engaged we are in food culture. We’re passionate about what we do and it’s important to talk with them about this and how we can develop our relationships with them in the future.
Myles Bremner talked with us after the event and said,
It’s very clear that Solutions SK are focused on improving wellbeing in schools. By offering a personal service determined by really understanding the needs of their customers, Solutions SK is starting to deliver excellent results. I was really impressed by the motivation of all team members to deliver a quality service, as well as the strong desire for personal professional development.
This event is the first of a series of Showcase events we plan to hold which will enable local schools to participate in discussion and debate around key issues.
