Stockport’s outstanding and extraordinary citizens were honoured at the Proud of Stockport awards in the Town Hall on Thursday 22 October.

The awards recognised individuals, groups or teams who go out of their way to make Stockport a better place.

I was delighted, on behalf of Solutions SK, to present “The Ambassador for Stockport” award.

The winner was Jackie Sanderson.

The judging panel felt that Jackie stood out from an impressive and varied range of nominations. Our view was that she has made life better for many people in Stockport with mental health issues.

By her tireless work, even though at times she herself has been debilitated by her own health conditions, Jackie has helped many people at an individual level, including leading the weekly drop-ins at Stepping Hill Hospital Mental Health Unit and visiting the Mental Health Wards, listening to people, empathising with them, providing advice and even shopping for those unable to leave the ward. She has also played a leading role in the sector in Stockport, including chairing STUFF (Stockport User Friendly Forum) and as a Director of All Together Positive, a social enterprise mental health and wellbeing development service.

In all her work Jackie meets neighbouring Boroughs, she is truly an Ambassador for Stockport. For further information on the awards and to find out more, please visit www.stockport.gov.uk/proudofstockport

Council Leader, Sue Derbyshire, made and effort to find me out at the awards evening to give a very positive endorsement regarding this and recent functions held at the Town Hall. She said ”I am continually astounded by the excellent service and good quality hot food that your staff deliver at these functions Just how they get out hot food in such a short time is amazing. Pass on my personal thanks to your catering team”.
