Our Street Lighting Team Shines in the Spotlight for BBC and Netflix Productions

Posted On: 04 Nov 2024

Totally Local Company has recently found themselves under the glow of the limelight, playing a supporting role in two high-profile TV productions: BBC’s The Power of Parker and Netflix’s The House of Guinness. Their behind-the-scenes efforts helped create the perfect lighting ambiance for filming, showing that even the smallest details contribute to cinematic magic.

Supporting The Power of Parker

The team first assisted with the second season of The Power of Parker, a hit BBC sitcom following the tumultuous life of Martin Parker, a businessman whose success story is quickly unravelling. Known for his glamorous lifestyle, Parker hides a series of secrets and poor business decisions, culminating in a tale of suspense and humour as his life unravels. To help capture the perfect scenes, the team coordinated lighting adjustments by switching off streetlights at key moments, allowing the film crew to create just the right mood for Stockport’s transformation on screen.

Lighting up The House of Guinness

Next up, Stockport’s lighting team was called on once more, this time for Netflix’s historical drama The House of Guinness. The show transported viewers—and Stockport’s streets—back to the 19th century, with the town standing in as a convincing Dublin for scenes chronicling the story of the iconic Irish brewing dynasty. Working on Underbank, our Street Lighting team expertly adjusted lights, ensuring the set reflected the era’s authentic charm.

As a recognised, professional facilities management business, at Totally Local Company, one of our many prestigious services for our clients includes the provision of Street Lighting, Lighting Columns, Seasonal Lighting, and call out teams to handle lighting emergencies.

Stockport has gained recognition as a prime location for film and television and is rising as a popular choice for filming with the likes of Peaky Blinders, BBC drama Sherwood.

This also showcases the diverse teamwork and flexibility carried out on the behind the scenes work from our Street Lighting Team.

Well done and thank you to our Street Lighting Team Stars!

Special thanks to our Street Lighting team members, Dave Finnigan, Stephen Yuille, Lee Routledge, Helen Everett, Darren Collins, and Duncan McCormick for their dedication, flexibility, and resourcefulness in adapting Stockport’s streets for these productions.

It was not easy to get a close-up on set, but TLC’s Street Lighting Supervisor, Stephen Yuille, managed to capture a few photos of the film crew in action, giving Stockport a small but important place in TV and film history.
