Empowering South West Cheshire Scouts Group with IT Kit Donation

Posted On: 20 Nov 2024

Totally Local Company (TLC) is proud to support the 14th South West Cheshire (SWC) Scouts by donating recycled IT equipment to the group, helping to connect young people with the wider world.

The donation of repurposed desktops and laptops was perfectly timed to coincide with the Scouts’ participation in their ‘World Event for the Weekend’. JOTA-JOTI (Jamboree on the Air – Jamboree on the Internet), the world’s largest digital and radio Scout event. JOTA-JOTI brings together millions of Scouts and Guides from around the globe, fostering friendship, global citizenship, and cultural exchange through online and radio activities.

Jayne Stubbs, TLC’s School Catering Manager, and one of the SWC Scout leaders expressed her enthusiasm:

“It was fantastic to use the IT equipment donated by Totally Local Company. Being part of JOTA-JOTI was an incredible experience for our Scouts, from the youngest to the oldest members that range from age four to age eighteen and above. They participated in exciting activities, earned IT communication badges, and connected with Scouts worldwide. We hope this is just the beginning of many events like this!”

During the event, the SWC Scouts engaged with groups as far away as Australia, Japan, the USA, Mexico, Canada, Italy, India, Singapore, and Sweden. Even a local group from Shavington, just south of Crewe, joined the fun. The Scouts had the opportunity to learn, make new friends, and explore diverse cultures – all without leaving their Scout hut.

Deborah Schofield, TLC’s Head of Transformation & Technology, explained the initiative:

“As part of updating our IT infrastructure, we identified some older laptops and desktops that could no longer be repurposed internally. These devices were securely wiped and donated to the Scouts. We’re delighted that the kit has gone to such a great initiative, inspiring young people and encouraging their development.”

The Scouts showed their appreciation with a personalised ‘Thank You’ card sent to Deborah and her IT team, highlighting how much the donation meant to them.

Jayne Stubbs added:

“On behalf of the South West Cheshire Scouts Group, we cannot thank TLC enough for the IT kit. The children thoroughly enjoyed the event, and it’s something they’ll remember for years to come.”
