Our Marple Memorial Park Award-Winning Team
We’re pleased to share that Fields in Trust’s UK’s Favourite Parks 2022 Awards, based on a public vote, have been announced: https://www.fieldsintrust.org/favourite-parks/local-favourites
North West England had more ‘local favourites’ (14) than any other area of the UK. Of those winners – we’re very proud to say that two are Stockport-based and supported by Totally Local Company.
Huge congratulations to our teams making a real difference in the winning parks. Today we focus on our team at Marple Memorial Park, they do a fantastic job and you can read more about them here:
A – Stuart, Ryan, Grant (l-r) – ride on mowing team – cut the medium to large size areas of grass in the Park (and street verges).
B – Graham and Mark – gardening round 5 team. They mow, strim, work on the shrub beds and undertake general maintenance in the park. Special Shout Out to Mark (r) who next year will have reached 40 years with TLC.
C – Martin (l) tractor mows large areas of grass (and in other areas works on football pitches too). Carl (c) does the same – and in addition works on bowling greens, hygiene and much more.
Kieran (r) and Jim (not pictured) – Hygiene Operatives – litter pick, sweep glass, empty bins, deal with fly tipping and open, close and clean the toilets (the latter along with our Streetcare team).
D – Scott, Gary, Martin, Pete (l-r) – gardening round 6 team (also work on utilities). Charge Hand Gary leads the works across parks in the East of Stockport. They support team 5 – and work in Marple Memorial Park whenever needed (for example – they cut the very neat hedge you can see behind them).
E – Dave (not pictured) maintains the Bowling Green. Carl (pictured) as above – works in a number of areas – including the green. The green is maintained at a very specific height and running repairs are undertaken throughout the season including seeding and fertilisation. At the end of each season – we give the area a full renovation.
Our Playgrounds team work in 147 parks across Stockport. In Marple Memorial Park they look after two play areas and the skate park. Play areas are inspected every two weeks – looking at all individual pieces of equipment and the space as a whole. For MMP this is from the perimeter fence to any safety surfaces and from the climbing frame to the rocking horse they lovingly restored recently.
In addition to our work: the Friends Of Marple Memorial Park do a wonderful job across the park. They work on the planting beds, herbaceous borders, the area around the memorial, and much more. In addition they fought hard to keep the toilets (that we now maintain) open in the park. You can take a look at more of their work here: https://www.marplememorialpark.org.uk/
Huge congratulations to our TLC team who work at Marple Memorial Park for your significant part in its success.
